Grant application titled “Role of PAR-2 in nanoparticle modulation of allergic lung disease”
The NC TraCS proposal investigates the contribution of lung macrophage PAR2 on allergic airway disease caused by multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). We propose that common allergens like house dust mite allergens form an ‘allergen corona’ on the surface of the MWCNTs. This specific ‘allergen corona’ exhibit proteolytic activity leading to PAR2 activation within the lung. PAR2 signaling especially on lung macrophages increases and exacerbate the allergic airways disease.
