Areas of Interest

My study in the lab focuses on two main areas. The first is focused on the human factor VIII mimic Hemlibra (Emicizumab) used to treat Hemophilia A. We are investigating cell surface activity of Hemlibra to drive improved efficacy of this and other factor-derived treatments while also improving the safety of these treatments overall. The second is focused on sickle cell trait (SCT). I consent individuals with SCT for studies that research the long-term health effects of SCT as compared to individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD) and individuals without either of them. We are also studying the effects of SCT on the deformability and coagulation potential of red blood cells.
