Community-onset Diarrhea Pathway

This treatment pathway is intended for patients with uncomplicated Gram-negative bacteremia with a known pathogen and pending microbiological susceptibility testing results.

Restricted anti-infective drugs may be approved by the ID consult services or by the Carolina Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (CASP). Restricted anti-infectives initiated by the ID medicine service (MDK) do not require approval.

Duration recommendations are provided as a general guideline for therapy (IV or PO) with a goal of minimizing unintended consequences to the patient (e.g., precipitating C. difficile colitis, development of resistant pathogens, organ dysfunction). Patient-specific factors should influence duration decisions and transition to oral therapy.
