
These prestigious awards are presented to alumni whose outstanding accomplishments bring heightened esteem and recognition to the UNC School of Medicine.
Recipients of the Distinguished Medical Alumni Awards are recognized for their outstanding professional service and achievements. In recent years, alumni have been honored for excellence in areas including professional service and community leadership, as well as superior work that has garnered national or international attention.
The awards are presented by the UNC School of Medicine’s Office of Medical Alumni Affairs.
Dr. Jane Brice, MD, Class of ’94
Dr. Brice has spent 30 years as a faculty member within the UNC School of Medicine, including 10 years as Department Chair for Emergency Medicine. She is credited with building UNC into one of the nation’s leading emergency centers – one which is widely recognized for its thriving residency and fellowship programs, as well as the breadth and depth of significant and innovative research conducted by its faculty.
Dr. Brice completed a BA, MPH, and MD degrees from UNC Chapel Hill. One of her areas of particular interest within the field of Emergency Medicine includes advancing the quality of care delivered in the out-of-hospital environment. A widely recognized and often published expert in the area of prehospital care, she is Editor-In-Chief for Prehospital Emergency Care.
During her career, Dr. Brice has been actively involved in leadership roles with numerous professional societies, and has received many awards and honors recognizing her dedication to excellence in patient care as well as education and training of tomorrow’s emergency physicians.
Dr. Brice is also particularly passionate about areas including trauma care, care of children, stroke care, and health literacy.
