The Tintinalli-UNC Emergency Medicine Prize is a $5,000 cash prize awarded by the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Emergency Medicine in recognition of original and substantive contributions to the field of Emergency Medicine. Named for the founding UNC Department of Emergency Medicine Chair, Dr. Judith Tintinalli, the Prize honors those whose leadership, scholarship, service, and advocacy advance our specialty of Emergency Medicine in creative, meaningful, and lasting ways as did Dr. Tintinalli over three decades. Dr. Tintinalli was president of the American Board of Emergency Medicine from 1989 to 1990 and was the founding president of the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors. She is Editor-in-Chief of the world’s largest selling emergency medicine textbook, Tintinalli’s Emergency Medicine, and is Editor-in-Chief of AccessEmergency Medicine, the McGraw-Hill digital library for emergency medicine.

While Dr. Tintinalli, Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced her retirement in 2021, we are thankful for the culture of innovation and excellence she created at UNC, and are proud to continue her legacy of service!
