Dr. Serrano is a widely recognized clinician and researcher, as well as a presenter at medical meetings.


She has a particular focus on medical education and serves as core faculty within the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Additionally, she serves as medical director of UNC’s Forensic Nursing Program, and is deeply committed to its mission of providing comprehensive care to victims of sexual assault and other forms of interpersonal violence, as well as engaging in community-wide efforts for prevention of sexual violence.

Dr. Serrano completed her Emergency Medicine residency program at the University of Wisconsin in 2011, and joined UNC in 2015. Throughout her career she has been the recipient of a wide range of honors and awards, including:

  • 2019 UNC School of Medicine Academy of Educators Inductee
