Dr. Ageliki Tsagaratou (Assistant Professor, Genetics) has secured a Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) (R35) for her project titled “Epigenetic Regulation of Lineage Specification” which will support her continued studies of the mechanisms by which TET proteins influence lineage specification in embryonic stem cells.  Dr. Dan Schrider (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded a MIRA grant for his project titled “Advancing Evolutionary Genetic Inference in Humans and Other Taxa” focused on developing and applying machine learning methods for evolutionary inference using genomic datasets.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) provides these five year grants to increase the efficiency of funding by providing outstanding investigators with greater stability and flexibility, thereby enhancing scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs.
