Dr. Karl Shpargel (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded an R56 grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) for his project titled “Enhancer Activation Roles and Mechanisms in Craniofacial Development”.

Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published twelve papers during July 12-25, 2020.

Dr. Erin Heinzen Cox (Associate Professor, Pharmacy and Genetics) received an R01 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) for her project titled “Defining Disease Mechanisms in SLC35A2 Epilepsy”. 

Effective August 1, work windows (shifts) will no longer be required in School of Medicine research labs but 50% occupancy and social distancing must still be observed.

Dr. Alexander Rubinsteyn (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded a Novocure Career Development Award from the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) for his project titled “Impact of Tumor Treating Fields on Neoantigen Burden and T Cell Function”. 

Dr. Christoph Rau (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded an R00 grant from NHLBI for his project titled “Discovery of Novel Epigenetic Regulators of Heart Failure in a Panel of Mice”.

Dr. Virginia Miller (Professor, Dept. of Genetics and Microbiology & Immunology) has been awarded an R01 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) for her project titled “Understanding hypermucoviscosity in Klebsiella”.

Dr. Fernando Pardo-Manuel de Villena (Professor and Chair, Genetics) was awarded a Research Service Agreement for the Systems Genetics group to provide exclusive data analysis services for the miniMUGA inbred mouse Background Analysis Report for Neogen.

Dr. Hyejung Won (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded an R21 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) for her project titled “Using H-MAGMA to decipher neurological bases of smoking and alcohol use traits”.
