On March 2, more than 50 faculty members from the Department of Genetics gathered at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens for an all-day strategic planning retreat.
Following introductions and icebreakers, Genetics chair Dr. Fernando Pardo-Manuel de Villena reviewed the prior 6.5 years of department achievements in faculty affairs, research productivity, education, policy and process, service, and honors/awards. The retreat featured sessions on “Mission and Branding”, “Succession Planning”, and “SWOT Analysis and Actionable Strategies”. The feedback from the retreat will be utilized to build a five-year strategic plan.
The mission statement of the department was revised during a lively, iterative working session: We advance fundamental, translational, and clinical research in genetics and genomics through innovation, education, and collaboration.
