Greg Smith, PhD (Assistant Professor, Genetics) has received a Junior Faculty Development Award from the UNC Provost’s Office.

The project titled “Comparative transcriptomics of a new mouse model of susceptibility to ozone-induced asthma” hypothesizes that “there are key differences in the transcriptomic response of the Collaborative Cross mouse strain CC002 alveolar macrophages (AM) that underlie the dysregulated inflammatory response of the strain.”  The experimental approach will be to compare differential AM mRNA expression between high 03 responding CC002 and low 03 responding C57BL/6J strains and to correlate with response phenotypes (e.g., eosinophilic inflammation and cytokines) to discover novel genomic susceptibility factors.
