Dr. Laura Raffield (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded a 5-year R01 from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) titled “Immune Cells in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias in the Jackson Heart Study”.

The proposed work will assess specific innate and adaptive immune cells, and genes expressed in these cells, and determine whether they are associated with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia risk among African Americans from the population-based Jackson Heart Study.

This award is a collaborative effort with subsites at Columbia University, University of Mississippi Medical Center, University of Vermont and State Agriculture College, and University of Washington.
