Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published 7 papers during March 17th - 30th 2024.

Multiple graduate students from the Curriculum in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and the Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology generously volunteered their time and expertise for a recent Shadow a Scientist Outreach outreach event on March 22, 2024.

Laura Milko, PhD (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded a grant from the NC TraCS CTS Pilot Program.

Jason Stein, PhD (Associate Professor, Genetics and Neuroscience Center) has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Award from Ramona Optics for his project titled “A parallelized imaging platform for accurate and efficient long-term assessment of organoid growth”. 

Philip Spanheimer, MD has been appointed Assistant Professor (secondary) in the Department of Genetics, effective March 1, 2024. 

Austin Hepperla, PhD has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics, effective February 1, 2024.

Samir Kelada, PhD (Associate Professor, Genetics) was interviewed by Society of Toxicology TV during the SOT 63rd Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Shawn Ahmed (Professor, Genetics and Biology) has been awarded a new R01 grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) for his proposal titled “Telomere uncapping epigenetically reprograms a stress response and longevity pathway”.
