Dr. Terry Furey has been appointed Professor in the Departments of Genetics and Biology, effective Jan. 1, 2021.
Dr. Furey earned a BS in Mathematical Sciences (1991) and a MS in Computer Science (1993) from the University of California, Santa Barbara, followed by a PhD in Computer Science (2002) and a postdoctoral fellowship at University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Furey served as a Scholar, Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy and an Assistant Research Professor, Departments of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics and Computer Science at Duke University (2004-2010). Dr. Furey was appointed Assistant Professor (2011) and Associate Professor (2015) in the Departments of Genetics and Biology (UNC Chapel Hill) and has affiliations with the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease, Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Furey’s lab focuses on computational genomic research in the areas of chromatin and gene regulation, inflammatory bowel disease and environmental toxicogenomics.
