Lean Six Sigma is a methodology to improve how we lead, teach and care for patients at UNC. Lean focuses on speed, eliminating waste, standardization, and flexibility/responsiveness while Six Sigma seeks to verify root causes of current performance and eliminate variation.
UNC Medical Center's goal is to train all staff and faculty as Yellow Belts – those who can assist with improvement projects.
Yellow Belts with interest and aptitude can pursue training to become:
- Purple Belts - focus on Lean
- Green Belts - focus on Six Sigma
- Blue Belts - leaders who sponsor improvement projects
- Kaizen Coaches - leaders with quality improvement expertise who facilitate and drive improvement
Training is provided by UNC Medical Center's Department of Operational Efficiency.
