Research Focus:

Dr. Dang’s research interests focus on utilizing computational advances and data mining technologies to understand high-throughput data from both basic and clinical research studies related to lung diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, COPD, and Asthma, etc. Dr. Dang provides bioinformatics/biostatistics consultation and data analysis services to collaborating PIs at UNC Marsico Lung Institute Cystic Fibrosis/Pulmonary Research and Treatment Center on gene and microRNA expression data from microarray and next-gen sequencing experiments, help integrate different data types such as genetic variance, mass-spec proteomic and clinical phenotypes through GWAS, expression QTL, and functional gene set enrichment analyses. Dr. Dang is also an expert on biological databases, and is interested in applying machine learning techniques for biological data mining. Other area of Dr. Dang’s interests include de novo sequence assembly of long variable repeat regions of mucin genes, such as MUC5AC, from long read single molecule sequencing data from PacBio platform, gene regulation data mining from ENCODE data and microRNA target predictions, and gene interaction network analysis.
