UNC Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program

The mission of the UNC Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine is to build the clinical knowledge, skills, and acumen needed to care for older adults and to produce the future leaders in geriatric clinical care, medical education, research, and quality improvement.

Welcome to the UNC Geriatric Medicine Fellowship! Without a doubt, we are proud to train fellows with a diverse range of interests. We are able to personalize their fellowship training to meet their needs. We understand that in a world with too few geriatricians, we need to prepare our fellows to be leaders in the field. As such, it is an honor to provide this opportunity to our fellows year after year. Specifically, our goal is to nurture the professional growth of each of our fellows and to share our love of geriatrics. As a result, our fellows have gone on to appointments in primary care, academic medicine, and long term care. Also, several have combined their geriatrics training with additional subspecialty training in cardiology, oncology, and pulmonology.

UNC Geriatrics fellows train in a variety of clinical sites, including our UNC Eastowne Medical Office Building and our inpatient geriatric service at UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus. In addition to a diverse array of clinical experiences, our fellowship program offers close mentorship from our research faculty as the fellows design and implement their yearly quality improvement project. Through this QI curriculum, our fellows have been published in the Journal of American Geriatrics. They have also presented numerous posters at the American Geriatrics Society National Meeting over the years. Our world class educators, who lead our residency programs and oversee courses in the medical school curriculum, provide additional training and teaching experiences to our fellows during their year.
