UNC Ophthalmology is thrilled to recognize third-year (PGY4) resident Bryce DeChamplain, MD, for being named one of five 2026 recipients of UNC Hospitals’ Robert C. Cefalo House Officer Awards.
Each year, UNC Hospitals selects five department-nominated house staffers with the Cefalo House Officer Award based upon demonstration of exemplary clinical care, professionalism, leadership, and compassionate patient care. As a Cefalo House Officer awardee, Dr. Campbell receives a $1000 stipend to offset expenses tied to professional development and/or attendance of scientific conferences that enrich healthcare/hospital setting knowledge and abilities.
Considered one of the highest UNC Hospitals house staff honors, the Cefalo House Officer Award recognizes the legacy of memory of Dr. Robert C. Cefalo, Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology and UNC Hospitals’ former Office of Graduate Medical Education Designated Institutional Official (DIO). As a 25-year UNC Hospitals Residency and Fellowship Program Director, Dr. Cefalo served as a model of exemplary leadership and service to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
