Dr. Brewington is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and history at Duke University. She completed a one year Research Fellowship at Duke University Eye Center after earning her medical degree at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Dr. Brewington completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, and served as chief resident from 2002-2003. She also completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Emory University Eye Center in Atlanta and completed a fellowship in Medical Retina/Ocular Oncology at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Brewington is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the National Merit Fellowship (1994 and 1995), the Society of Pediatric Research Student Research Fellow, the Retinal Research Foundation Lawrence Travel Grant and the Meritorious Service Medal in 2006.

From 2003 to 2006 she was a Major in the United States Air Force and served as a staff ophthalmologist at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.

Dr. Brewington has conducted research in cancer immunobiology and made numerous presentations at professional conferences and published in academic journals. She has extensive experience treating patients with complex eye conditions including macular degeneration, dry eye disease, and retina disease.
