Kathy Whitfield, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received a Bachelor of Science in biology at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. She earned her medical doctorate at the University of South Dakota, her home state. Her residency in Ophthalmology was at the University of Colorado in Denver, CO. She completed fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

Dr Whitfield’s specialties include children’s eye care, pediatric and adult strabismus (ocular misalignment), congenital disorders of the nasolacrimal duct, amblyopia (lazy eye), ocular motility disorders, and pediatric uveitis.

She and her husband enjoy keeping up with their three teenage children and exploring all the beautiful areas of North Carolina.
