The Nephropathology Division specializes in the evaluation of medical kidney diseases using light microscopy, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy. Our expert faculty provide detailed morphologic and clinicopathologic assessments, working closely with nephrologists to guide patient management. We are deeply committed to education. Trainees gain experience with a broad spectrum of native and transplant kidney biopsies, and benefit from case-based learning, collaborative conferences, and exposure to research in glomerular disease and transplant pathology.

Our premier nephropathology laboratory offers expert diagnostic services, providing comprehensive renal pathology reports in a timely manner. Our laboratory conducts the technical and professional components of renal pathology services for the UNC Medical Center.

Education

Our department offers a one-year clinical fellowship training program in Nephropathology. The training year is intended for board-eligible or board-certified anatomic pathologists who want progressive responsibility and to develop excellent diagnostic skills in renal pathology in an academic practice environment.
