UNC Health is a not-for-profit integrated health care system (established under North Carolina statute N.C.G.S. § 116-37) and is owned by the state of North Carolina. It is comprised of the UNC Hospitals and its provider network, the clinical programs of the UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), and several affiliate hospitals and hospital systems across the state of North Carolina.

The following entities are all considered part of UNC Health for HIPAA compliance purposes and are subject to the UNC Health HIPAA policies:

  • UNC Hospitals
  • UNC Rex Healthcare
  • Chatham Hospital
  • Caldwell Memorial
  • UNC Physicians Network
  • UNC Health Alliance
  • UNC Senior Alliance
  • UNC Faculty Physicians
  • UNC School of Medicine (all clinical components)
  • UNC Rockingham Health Care

The following entities are also part of UNC Health, but are only subject to those UNC Health HIPAA policies and HIPAA privacy program elements that they have formally adopted:

  • Johnston Health
  • Nash UNC Health Care
  • Onslow Memorial Hospital
  • Pardee Hospital
  • UNC Health Southeastern
  • UNC Lenoir Health Care
  • Wayne UNC Health Care
