Fuchs Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Jennifer Fuchs, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective April 1, 2023. Dr. Fuchs has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since 2019. Dr. Fuchs is a Pediatric Hospitalist and the Program Director for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship.  

Smitherman Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Andrew Smitherman, MD, MSc was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective March 1, 2023. Dr. Smitherman has been a faculty member in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology since 2017. Dr. Smitherman is the Medical Director of the UNC Adolescents and Young Adults Oncology Program.

Aliaga Promoted to Professor of Pediatrics

Sophia Aliaga, MD, MPH was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics effective March 1, 2023. Dr. Aliaga has been a faculty member in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine since 2010. Dr. Aliaga is a neonatologist whose research focuses on perinatal epidemiology and healthcare quality improvement measures with the goal of optimizing translation of best evidence into practice.

Law Promoted to Professor of Pediatrics

Jennifer Law, MD was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics effective February 1, 2023. Dr. Law has been a faculty member in Pediatric Endocrinology since 2013. Dr. Law is a pediatric endocrinologist whose research interests focus on clinical management and comorbidities of type 1 diabetes and Turner syndrome.

Perry Promoted to Professor of Pediatrics

Martha Perry, MD was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics effective February 1, 2023. Dr. Perry has been a faculty member in General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine since 2017. She is the Director of Outpatient Quality and Safety for UNC Children’s Hospital where she identifies and prioritizes strategic enhancements to outpatient quality and safety.

Jackson Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

October 1, 2022

Wesley Jackson, MD, MPH was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective October 1, 2022. Since becoming a faculty member in 2018, Dr. Jackson has had a strong commitment to the Department of Pediatrics’ Research mission. Dr. Jackson has expanded his research interests to include clinical trials operations, pharmacokinetic modeling, and epigenetic analyses. Dr. Jackson’s goal is to combine these interests to improve the outcomes of infants through drug development for diseases with limited available therapies, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia and hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy.

Kihlstrom Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Meg Kihlstrom, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective May 1, 2022. Since becoming a faculty member in 2015, Dr. Kihlstrom has had a strong commitment to the Department of Pediatrics’ Education mission,  In March of 2021, Dr. Kihlstrom was named as Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program at UNC.
