Simulation
The Pediatric Residency Simulation Program is designed to complement your clinical and didactic education activities. The goal of our simulation program is for you to be prepared to provide independent resuscitation, stabilization and triage of acutely/critically ill pediatric and neonatal patients. We also seek to provide a safe training environment and foster a humanistic approach to the practice of medicine. Simulation activities are also opportunities to engage in interprofessional teamwork. This program incorporates several simulation-based activities throughout the year.
The components of the program include:
- Skills and Procedures Curriculum
- Skills sessions during Noon Conference
- Skills session during Orientation for new PL-1s
- PICU/NICU boot camp at the end of the PL-1 year
- Procedure lab for PL-1s in the fall
- Procedure lab for graduating residents at the end of PL-3 year; procedures based on career/fellowship plans
- Interprofessional pediatric floor mock codes
- PICU mock codes
- NICU STTIR training (delivery room scenarios) and DRSAVR training (video debrief of deliveries)
- Simulation sessions in the Emergency Department
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Our Simulation Program is led by Dr. Sofia Aliaga, Associate Program Director/Neonatal-Perinatal faculty, and Dr. Meg Kihlstrom, Critical Care faculty, and its success would not be possible without involvement from numerous faculty members, fellows and nurse practitioners in our department.
