Lung function testing at the Cystic Fibrosis CenterUNC Pediatric Pulmonology provides state of the art diagnosis and treatment of lung disease in children, cutting edge research into many aspects of pulmonary disease, and one of the discipline’s leading fellowship training programs.  Our goal is to improve the health and wellbeing of children living with conditions such as aerodigestive disorders, asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), cystic fibrosis (CF), neuromuscular disorders, primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), rare or genetic lung diseases, and others.  Our team provides care to children all across North Carolina as well as neighboring states and across the globe.

  • The Joint Commission

    NC Children’s Allergy and Asthma Center awarded Joint Commission Certification Through 2026

    UNC Children’s has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for the NC Children’s Allergy and Asthma Center through 2026 by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The NC Children’s Allergy and Asthma Center is the only pediatric asthma program in the southeastern United States to be certified by the Joint Commission Certification and is only one of eleven programs with this distinction throughout the nation.

  • James S. Hagood, MD

    UNC Researchers to Accelerate Mapping of Cells Crucial to Child Respiratory Health and Disease

    A research project co-led by James Hagood, MD, professor of pediatrics at the UNC School of Medicine, and colleagues will be supported in creating an atlas of the cells and cellular interactions in the nasal and oral cavities, throat, and lower airways of pediatric populations in unprecedented detail.

    Three Elected to American Pediatric Society in 2024

    The American Pediatric Society (APS) council members have formally elected Dr. Elisabeth Dellon, Professor of Pediatrics in Pediatric Pulmonology, Dr. Ajay Gulati, Professor of Pediatrics in Gastroenterology, and Dr. Lane Donnelly, Professor of Radiology and Pediatrics, to Active membership with the society. Active member nominations are accepted for individuals who reside in the United States or Canada who have distinguished themselves as child health leaders, teachers, scholars, policymakers, and/or clinicians and whose important contributions are recognized nationally and/or internationally, as determined by the Council, and who have well-established credentials as teachers, scholars, policymakers, and/or clinicians and whose contributions have advanced child health.

  • Jane Gross, MD, PhD

    Welcome New Physician Faculty: Jane Gross, MD, PhD

    Dr. Gross joined the Department of Pediatrics as a board-certified Pediatric Pulmonologist on September 1, 2024. Dr. Gross received her BS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993. She remained at UNC to complete a PhD in Oral Biology in 1999. She earned her  medical degree at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2003. She was a Pediatric Resident at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii from 2003 to 2006. She completed subspecialty training in Pediatric Pulmonology at Boston Children’s Hospital 2009. Dr. Gross most recently held an academic appointment at National Jewish Health as Associate Professor of Pediatrics. She has served several years in the Army Reserve and held several military appointments to include Chief Resident of Pediatrics and Deputy Commander of Clinical Services. Welcome back to UNC, Jane!
