Hematology/Oncology
Pediatric Hematology-Oncology is part of the UNC Department of Pediatrics, the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Children’s Oncology Group. Our providers specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and management of hematological disorders and malignancies in children, adolescents and young adults. Pediatric Hematology-Oncology offers comprehensive clinics in hemophilia and bleeding disorders, oncology, sickle cell disease, general hematology, brain tumors and long-term follow-up. Because, the care of children with cancer is a dynamic process based on improving treatments through research, our faculty are engaged in numerous clinical trials and in basic science research to support the ongoing care of children and adolescents with cancer.

UNC Pediatrics Celebrates Innovation at 2026 Evening of Scholarship
Pediatrics hosted its annual Thomas F. Boat Evening of Scholarship on May 11, 2026, in Roper Hall, bringing together trainees and faculty to present and award research spanning basic science, clinical care, quality improvement, and education. The event featured a keynote by Bob Vinci, MD, and highlighted outstanding projects and mentorship across a wide range of topics, from global health to genetic discovery.

Savoldo and Dotti Honored with 2026 Battle Distinguished Cancer Research Award
Drs. Barbara Savoldo and Gianpietro Dotti have been named recipients of the 2026 Hyman L. Battle Distinguished Cancer Research Award, recognizing their leadership in advancing CAR T-cell therapies. Their work at UNC Lineberger continues to expand innovative, immune-based treatments for both adult and pediatric patients, improving outcomes for those facing complex cancers.
