Congratulations to David Gerber, MD, George F. Sheldon, MD Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Chief of Abdominal Transplantation has been selected for a 2021 Nursing Staff Recognition Week “Friend of Nursing” Award.
The Friend of Nursing award was established in 2009 as a way to recognize the collaborative relationship between Nursing and Medical Colleagues. Through a nomination process, physicians and advanced practice providers who are role models for Commitment to Caring and demonstrate continuing support for nurses and nursing are identified by the Nursing Retention Committee and nurse leaders.
His nomination noted:
“Dr. David Gerber embodies all characteristics of a “Friend of Nursing” and fosters a collaborative relationship between physicians, nurses, and the entire interprofessional team. He has demonstrated leadership and collaboration over many years but specifically and more recently in his direct work with the Burn ICU. He partnered with nursing leadership to improve the work environment and culture on the unit. He offered the team a safe place to talk freely about challenges but more importantly, worked toward solutions. He has been involved in many aspects of pandemic planning this past year, and always paused to get nursing and operational leader input. Dr. Gerber is a well-respected and trusted colleague and indeed a valuable Friend of Nursing”.
