Cedric Wolber, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr. C William Davis.

Research Focus

Cedric Wolber is studying the polarity of Ca2+ signaling in human goblet cells.  Mucin secretory granules are exocytosed across the cells' apical membranes and is strictly Ca2+ dependent.  The Ca2+ responsible for exocytosis, per se, does not appear to cross the apical membrane, but is released from IP3-dependent pools in the ER.  The question immediately at hand is whether Ca2+ necessary for re-charging the ER Ca2+ stores enters the cell via the apical or basolateral membranes.
