The Hand and Microsurgery Service at UNC Orthopaedics has over 25 years experience treating a wide variety of hand and upper extremity problems, including major traumatic injuries to the upper extremity that in addition to fracture care can require the repair of severed tendons, nerves, and blood vessels. Dr. Bynum is a member of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand and possesses the "Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand." He also performs reconstructive procedures for arthritic problems, birth defects, and other non-traumatic problems of the hands and upper extremities. Many of these procedures can be performed as outpatient surgery under local or regional anesthesia in the hospital's operating suite at the Ambulatory Care Center on Mason Farm Road.
