The Carolina Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (CGWEP) was well represented at the recent Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Annual Meeting in Boston. The gathering brought together leaders in aging from across the country and offered a valuable opportunity to learn, connect, and share the work happening in North Carolina.
Dr. Jan Busby-Whitehead, Dr. Mallory Brown, and Denisé Dews attended the national GWEP pre-conference meeting, joining colleagues from GWEPs across the country. The team highlighted CGWEP’s accomplishments during an interactive “marketplace,” where participants shared tools, resources, and successful practices. The session sparked rich conversations and new ideas for advancing age-friendly, dementia-friendly care.

In addition to the pre-conference events, the meeting offered opportunities to strengthen partnerships. The pre-conference meeting honored recently retired HRSA Program Officer, Dr. Nina Tumosa. Dr. Tumosa served as CGWEPs program officer over a span of 20 years. Denisé enjoyed a wonderful dinner with Dr. Donna Roberson and Dr. Kimberly Delgado, our valued partners from East Carolina University, discussing ongoing collaborations and future initiatives to support older adults and their caregivers across the state.
Overall, the GSA Annual Meeting provided inspiration, connection, and renewed energy as CGWEP continues its mission to improve care for North Carolina’s aging population.
