Transportation
There are many transportation options not only to get around Chapel Hill, but also to get around the Triangle. The Triangle consists of the cities of Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh. The city buses of Chapel Hill are free to everyone 24 hours, seven days a week.
Getting Around by Bus
- Chapel Hill Transit – free-for-everyone buses serving the UNC campus, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro
- Go Triangle – buses between Chapel Hill & Durham and Chapel Hill & Raleigh
- Go Durham – bus system serving Durham
Getting Around by Car
Parking on the UNC campus is very limited and is usually not available. If you need to drive in and park on campus, the Dogwood parking deck across from the hospitals costs $10 per day. However, if you live outside of Chapel Hill, you can apply for a Park-n-Ride permit. Students have used Zip Cars in past years. In 2011, an MSTAR student bought a used car for $600 then drove it home at the end of the program.
Getting Around by Bicycle
Students can bring their own bikes for transportation. At the same time, you can also buy a bike at a local new or used bike shop, or on our local Craigslist. For cyclists, all transit buses have bike racks on the front of the bus.
UNC Point-to-Point (P2P)
Point-to-Point (P2P) is a University-operated service providing on-demand and fixed route transportation, exclusively for UNC-Chapel Hill students and employees. Services are available during the day and after dark. Rides can be scheduled through the P2P app or by calling P2P Dispatch at 919-962-7867. Visit the P2P website for more information.
