The UNC MSTAR Program Overview

MSTAR Program Duration
Students are required to spend a minimum of 8 weeks in their summer internship, with a maximum range of up to 10 weeks. The UNC MSTAR Program has flexible start and end dates for the scholar’s summer experience. The length of research time is determined in consultation with the student’s research mentor.
MSTAR Student Scholar Stipend
The MSTAR Student Scholar Stipend level is approximately $2100 per month. Actual amounts will vary based on the specific appointment period of individual students. Payments will be sent to students at the end of each month.
Travel expenses to conferences for presenting the students’ research is available. Living expenses are not covered by the internship. The NIH and NIA Prohibit Participating in MSTAR if You Will Be Concurrently Funded by Another NIH NIA Funded Program.
*The NIH AND NIA PROHIBIT PARTICIPATING IN ANOTHER PROGRAM CONCURRENTLY WITH MSTAR.
