Dr. Irena Levitan received her B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD in Biophysics and Neurobiology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1994. She completed postdoctoral training at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and the Institute for Medicine and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Levitan is a Professor of Medicine and Bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is currently a visiting Professor in the Neher Lab here at UNC-CH. Her research focuses on the impact of dyslipidemia on endothelial function with particular emphasis on shear stress and mechanotransduction, biophysics and physiology of endothelial ion channels and cellular biomechanics.
