“Blood coagulation factor IX: structural insights impacting hemophilia B therapy” was recently accepted for publication in the journal Blood. The work is a collaboration between BRC Center member Dougald Monroe and Leiden University Medical Center investigators Rianne Elaine van Diest and Mettine H A Bos. This review focuses on analyzing the structure of factor IX with respect to molecular mechanisms that are at the basis of factor IX function. The manuscript also examines how changes in factor IX structure can lead to enhanced activity that might provide for better therapeutics. This review is part of a series that also looks at structure/function of factor VIII and von Willebrand factor.   Read full text here
