UNC’s Vital Signs highlighted work from the Wolberg laboratory (https://news.unchealthcare.org/2025/05/unc-study-offers-new-hope-for-safer-bleeding-treatments/) that is currently in press in Blood (https://ashpublications.org/blood/article/doi/10.1182/blood.2025028680/537391/Plasminogen-activation-and-plasmin-activity-are). This work showed that plasminogen activation and activity are not required to prevent venous thrombosis/thromboembolism, and suggests that use of antifibrinolytic therapy to decrease bleeding is not expected to increase thrombosis risk.
