Congratulations and welcome to the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! We are excited to have you join us for the next step of your journey, and we look forward to working with you. Here you will find important information on becoming part of our community.

Accept the admission offer

To secure your place in the class, please complete the Reply to Offer of Admission form in the online application website. Upon accepting your offer of admission, a link to pay the non-refundable $250 enrollment deposit will become available on your application student status page. Please complete your enrollment form and submit your tuition deposit as soon as possible, but no later than 30 days after the receipt of your acceptance.

Financial aid

Students are responsible for the cost of tuition and living expenses, as the program’s full-time, intensive schedule does not allow for funding through assistantships. Visit the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid to learn about federal loans. For more information, please contact gradfunding@unc.edu.

Housing

Learn more about living on campus on the Baity Hill Community for Graduate/Professional Students and Families website. Check out local rental listings in Chapel Hill/Carrboro and look for roommates on the Off-Campus Housing website. Many local housing options are on the free bus lines (Chapel Hill Transit).

Parking

All cars parked on campus must display a parking permit issued by the UNC Department of Parking and Transportation. Student on-campus parking permits for the academic year are assigned through a lottery system that begins in late June and ends in July. Please visit the Academic Year Parking Registration webpage for more information. Many students choose to ride free Chapel Hill Transit busses to campus. Park and Ride lots are another popular option.

Technology

All incoming students are required to have a personal laptop computer. Visit the Carolina Computing Initiative website for information about purchasing a laptop.

Visit Onyen Services to create your UNC ID login.

Student health insurance

All students are required to have health insurance coverage. Student Blue is the health insurance plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of NC for students who do not have other insurance coverage. Students who have other insurance coverage must complete a Hard Waiver each semester.

Accommodations and special needs

Please find accessibility resources and services on the Equal Opportunity and Compliance website. And contact the EOC Accommodations team at accommodations@unc.edu with questions.

Orientation

Orientation occurs during the week before classes begin. Students must be on campus for orientation. Registration for  Graduate School Orientation opens in early summer.
