The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has selected UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Katherine Hoadley, PhD, (UNC Genetics Assistant Professor) as the 2020 recipient of the Marion R. Wright Award for Scientific Excellence.

Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published eight papers during August 23 – Sept. 5, 2020.

Drs. Yun Li, Laura Raffield, Cassandra Spracklen and Karen Mohlke are co-authors on two manuscripts in the 3 Sep 2020 issue of Cell.

Dr. Yuchao Jiang (Assistant Professor of Biostatistics and Genetics) was awarded an R35 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) for his project titled “Statistical Methods for Bulk-Tissue and Single-Cell Multi-Omics Integration”.

Dr. Lisa Tarantino (Associate Professor, Department of Genetics) has been named the Faculty Director of the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP), effective August 1, 2020.

Dr. Christopher W. Gregory was promoted to Research Professor in the Department of Genetics, effective July 1, 2020.

Dr. Terry Magnuson, Vice Chancellor for Research and Kay M. and Van L. Weatherspoon Eminent Distinguished Professor of Genetics was awarded an administrative supplement to the U42 Cooperative Agreement “A Carolina Center to Characterize and Maintain Mutant Mice”.

Karen Mohlke, PhD, professor in the UNC Department of Genetics, is the contact PI for this five-year, $9.5 million multi-component research project co-op agreement (UM1) from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDKD).

Dr. Jenny Ting, William Rand Kenan Professor (Genetics), Professor (Microbiology and Immunology) and Director, Center for Translational Immunology at UNC Chapel Hill will serve as President of AAI for the 2020-2021 term.
