We are excited to announce that Nancy Sey, who works in Dr. Hyejung Won’s lab and is co-mentored by Dr. Joyce Besheer, was selected as a 2021 HHMI Gilliam Fellow.
Nancy is an outstanding student who as a rising 4th year graduate student has already published three papers, two of which she is first author (one in Nature Neuroscience), and is an NSF fellowship awardee. Nancy’s research uses experimental and computational approaches to study the genetic etiology and neurobiological mechanisms underlying substance abuse and psychiatric illnesses. Nancy has also done a tremendous amount of outreach, highlighted by her organizing a “DNA Day” in her native Ghana and promoting science literacy in Ghanaian middle schools.
