Robert Sandler, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Director of the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease (CGIBD), has announced the renewal of the Center’s P30 Center grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).
This renewal marks 40 consecutive years of NIH support for the CGIBD, highlighting the Center’s long standing role in advancing research, training, and collaboration in gastrointestinal health.
Since its founding, the CGIBD has brought together investigators from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State University, and Duke University to conduct innovative interdisciplinary research. In addition to supporting discoveries in digestive diseases, liver disorders, and nutrition, the Center’s work emphasizes bioresilience, the study of how the body adapts and recovers from gastrointestinal challenges.
