UNC Department of Ophthalmology is pleased to welcome Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology Marc Booth, MD, as the newest faculty member to join the Comprehensive Eye Care team. Dr. Booth joins UNC Ophthalmology on the heels of 20 years in ophthalmology private practice with physician groups nationwide. He brings a broad fund of ophthalmic knowledge to patient care and educating learners on medical and surgical management of cataract, cornea and external ocular disease, and refractive surgery. Dr. Booth’s foremost area of expertise – anterior segment treatment – will be a primary focus of his practice at UNC.

Over two decades of ophthalmology practice in the Midwest, Dr. Booth treated a wide range of patients in Indiana and Illinois through affiliations with multiple large hospital systems. While in private practice (2003-2005) in Carbondale, IL, Dr. Booth also taught primary care fundamentals as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Southern Illinois University Department of Family Medicine (2004-2005). Prior to joining UNC, Dr. Booth practiced as physician owner of Lakeshore Eye Consultants in Michigan City, IN (2021-2023).

After earning his MD at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine (1998), Dr. Booth spent his training years at academic medical centers across the U.S.: 1) Transitional Internship: St Vincent Hospital – Indianapolis, IN (1999); 2) Ophthalmology Residency: UCSD Shiley Eye Center (2002); and 3) Anterior Segment Surgery Fellowship: Baylor College of Medicine (Cullen Eye Institute) – Houston, TX (2003), with renowned cataract and refractive surgery expert Dr. Doug Koch. Dr. Booth is also a graduate of Stanford University (1993).
