North Carolina Lions Club chapters have long supported the strides in medicine made by UNC Department of Ophthalmology. In February 2024, UNC Department of Ophthalmology was honored to receive a $10,000 check from the Raleigh Host Lions Club designated to support research at the Carolina Eye Research Institute.
UNC Ophthalmology Chair Don Budenz, MD, MPH, noted: “We are grateful to UNC Ophthalmology residency graduate and Raleigh Host Lions Club member Dr. Isaac Porter for recommending this donation to UNC. This generous donation supports the mission and investigative activities of the [CERI] that lead the way in discovering new treatments, delivering innovative methods to restore sight, and performing thoughtful clinical trials that confirm the effectiveness of our discoveries.”
