Benjamin Frankfort, MD, PhD, the Clifton R. McMichael Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine, has been appointed Chair of the UNC Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Frankfort assumes his new role on July 20th, 2026, succeeding UNC’s Sterling A. Barrett Distinguished Associate Professor of Ophthalmology David Fleischman, MD, MS, who has served as the department’s Interim Chair since November 2025.
