UNC Ophthalmology is pleased to recognize Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology Dr. Kathy Whitfield as the new Medical Director of UNC Kittner Eye Center. A subspecialist in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus, Dr. Whitfield takes on her new role as Medical Director effective May 1, 2018.

EyeMed became the new Vision plan vendor for NCFlex effective 1/1/2018. UNC Eye has completed the contracting process with EyeMed and we look forward to again providing routine vision services to the employees of the state of North Carolina.

Seema Garg, MD, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, is the lead author on two companion articles, as well as an author podcast published in JAMA Ophthalmology. Garg, a retina specialist with a particular interest in diabetic retinopathy, has been spearheading efforts since 2009 to implement and study telemedicine programs to improve early detection of diabetic retinopathy.
