Lung function testing at the Cystic Fibrosis CenterUNC Pediatric Pulmonology provides state of the art diagnosis and treatment of lung disease in children, cutting edge research into many aspects of pulmonary disease, and one of the discipline’s leading fellowship training programs.  Our goal is to improve the health and wellbeing of children living with conditions such as aerodigestive disorders, asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), cystic fibrosis (CF), neuromuscular disorders, primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), rare or genetic lung diseases, and others.  Our team provides care to children all across North Carolina as well as neighboring states and across the globe.

    Hoekstra Receives UNC Physician Scientist Training Program Faculty Award

    Dr. Nadia Hoekstra, UNC Pediatric Pulmonology, has been selected for the UNC School of Medicine Physician Scientist Training Program Faculty Award. Her project will explore innovative uses of artificial intelligence and digital stethoscope technology to improve detection of aspiration risk in infants. The award offers the resources and community needed to strengthen research programs and accelerate translational and clinical investigation, advancing care for children across North Carolina

    UNC Pediatrics Celebrates Innovation at 2026 Evening of Scholarship

    Pediatrics hosted its annual Thomas F. Boat Evening of Scholarship on May 11, 2026, in Roper Hall, bringing together trainees and faculty to present and award research spanning basic science, clinical care, quality improvement, and education. The event featured a keynote by Bob Vinci, MD, and highlighted outstanding projects and mentorship across a wide range of topics, from global health to genetic discovery.

    Dr. Margaret “Magee” Leigh Lectureship Honors a Legacy of Pediatric Pulmonary Leadership

    A newly established lectureship, the Department of Pediatrics Dr. Margaret W. Leigh Lectureship, will honor the legacy of Margaret “Magee” W. Leigh, MD, a now-retired physician in the UNC Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and a highly respected leader in the field. The new lectureship will bring world-renowned experts to UNC to educate and inspire pediatric trainees for years to come.
