All UNC-CH laboratories that utilize research animals are required to have a Laboratory Animal Coordinator (LAC) assigned on active protocols.  The PRU offers LAC services to laboratories.  Utilization of this service ensures compliance with IACUC & DCM requirements, as well as provides time saving services to your lab:

  • New Protocol Submissions & Renewals
    • Formulation of technical, monitoring and surgical sections of new Animal Use Applications
    • The PI is required to write any scientific and statistical justifications
  • Protocol Amendments
    • Submission of amendments to add personnel, procedures or surgeries
    • Updates for all procedures and surgeries as experimental requirements evolve
    • Periodic protocol reviews to ensure compliance
  • Technique Training
    • Provide hands-on training and certification for all techniques to quickly remedy any outstanding training requirements
    • Provide advanced progressive training through to proficiency when requested
  • Animal Movements
    • Assist with the import or export of animals to and from UNC-CH, including initial request through to crating/uncrating when requested
    • Assist with submission of internal transfers between rooms and buildings on campus.
  • Cage Card Management
    • Order and place new cards for separation requests
    • Order and place new cards as part of colony management weaning requirements
