A murine pharmacokinetic study can provide information regarding the absorption, metabolism, distribution, and elimination of novel compounds. Drug concentration can be measured in blood, blood products, urine, tumors and organs. A murine pharmacodynamic study can provide information regarding the biochemical, physiologic and molecular effects of compounds on the body. PK/PD studies can be performed individually and in combination within the PRU.

While we do not perform PK/PD analysis, we can provide complete study management or ad-hoc services for a wide variety of PK/PD studies.

  • Consultation on timelines and study setup
  • Study Setup for data collection, timing of injections and other procedures
  • Animal Preparation (identification, shaving of injection site)
  • Cell injection if required
  • Weights/tumor measurements at specified intervals
  • Specialized Food & Water management
  • Randomization into treatment groups
  • Drug administration (typically IV) at specified intervals
  • Imaging and imaging analysis as requested
  • Harvests at study timepoints
  • IACUC and DCM compliance management

All study plans, collected data and time point information is provided in a SharePoint folder retained for your lab.  Data is provided on the same schedule as study measurements are taken to provide up to date information allow the monitoring of trends from beginning to end.

The skill and quality control provided by the trained staff of the Preclinical Research Unit allows utility and reproducibility of investigators studies involving the use of laboratory animals.
