The Preclinical Research Unit (PRU) maintains colonies of immune-compromised mice to facilitate your pre-clinical oncology and immune function research. All mice are housed in a barrier facility which maintains the highest level of health status available to UNC researchers.

Strains

NSG; NOD.Cg-Prkdcscid Il2rgtm1Wjl /SzJ; NOD-scid IL2Rgammanull

NSG mice carry two mutations on the NOD/ShiLtJ background and a complete null allele of the IL2 receptor common gamma chain which renders them B, T and functional NK cell deficient. These mice are commonly used for humanization through engraftment of HSCs, PBMCs, PDXs or adult stem cells and tissues.

Nu/Nu; NU-Foxn1nu

Nu/nu mice are maintained as outbred and are not associated with any background stock or strain. They lack a thymus and are unable to produce T-cells. Nu/nu mice are ideal for tumor biology and xenograft research.
