1) Federally funded research studies are partially supported through a NIH Shared Instrumentation Grant (#1S10RR017212) and are therefore charged for machine time at a reduced rate.

2) The machine time charge is for the use of the 3T MRI scanner and is assessed for the total time that the 3T MR scan room is used for your study in 15 minute increments.
3T MR+PET
  • For federally sponsored grants, $656/hour
  • For industry sponsored grants and contracts, $1,050/ hour
Contrast Media
  • 15 ml vial (body weight under 75 kg) $60.00
  • 20 ml vial (body weight over 75 kg) $80.00
  • 15 ml vial (body weight under 75 kg) $97.50 (External User)

Data Management
  • For federally sponsored grants, $50/hour
  • For industry sponsored grants and contracts, $80/ hour

A single copy of study images on a CD, with or without viewing software, can be provided to the investigator without additional charge. Any additional data management, including clinical trial paperwork and data transmission, will be billed in one hour increments.

9.4T MRI

 For federally sponsored UNC investigators:
  • $112/hour machine time + 30/hour staff support.
  • Overnight scans from 7pm to 8am on samples or fixed animal tissue:  $295/each, flat rate
  • For weekend scans, please contact staff for details

1) Federally funded research studies are partially supported through a NIH Shared Instrumentation Grant (#1-S10-RR019924-01) and are therefore charged for machine time at a reduced rate.

2) For samples that need more than 13 hours overnight scan, the additional hours will be charged with regular rate of $112/hour.

micro-PET/CT

 For UNC Investigators:
  • $110/hour machine time + $30/hour for staff support

1) There will be a charge for the radioisotope if not provided by the investigators, and the charge will be actual cost we purchase through the vendor.

2) For F18-FDG, the standard dose is currently $145, but may vary.

Micro-SPECT/CT

 For UNC Investigators:
  • $114/hour machine time + $30/hour for staff support

The rate does not include any cost for radioisotopes. Additional radioisotope cost will be charged based on actual cost we incur purchasing through the vendor.  Users can purchase radioisotopes independently.

Specimen micro-CT

 For UNC Investigators:
  • $48/hour for sample scan,
  • $24/hour for image analysis

1) Samples are scanned by facility staff.  Scan time per sample depends on imaging requirement and sample size.  Cost estimate can be requested before study.

2) Image analysis is done by users, utilizing BRIC facility scanner computer and software.
CNT Micro-CT For UNC Investigators:
  • $30/hour machine time + $30/hour for staff support
 Imaging is performed on a carbon-nanotube-based microCT.
Optical Imaging

For UNC Investigators:

  • $42/hour for user-operated study
  • $72/hour for staff-supported study
 Rates are for IVIS-100, IVIS-Lumina, IVIS-Kinetic, and FMT -2500 systems.

Ultrasound Imaging
  • $60/hour for user-operated study
  • $90/hour for staff-supported studies

VEVO-2100 system only available for users w/ mice housed in GM Vivarium.  Not available for external users.
