Three teams of BCAS faculty, staff, postdocs, and students have been recognized for their efforts in North Carolina’s Miles for Wellness fitness challenge, a virtual, team-based walking initiative by and for the state employees of North Carolina.
The BCAS Road Warriors 1 team took fifth place out of 252 teams participating, collectively trekking 5398 miles over eight weeks. The other two BCAS teams placed first and second in the Hare Division, totaling 2800 and 2791 miles, respectively, during the challenge.
The purpose of Miles for Wellness is to encourage and support employees to increase their level of physical activity. An eight-week challenge is held each spring and fall. Team members’ weekly step count totals are added up and plotted on a virtual map. This challenge was A Fall Tour – 25 Plymouth Towns and took participants on a journey through towns and cities named Plymouth as they (virtually) hiked across the United States.
