BCAS postdoctoral research associate Karen Boschen has accepted a position as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Physiology at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Boschen, came to the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies in 2016 after receiving a PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Delaware, and has been mentored by Dr. Scott Parnell, an Assistant Professor of Cell Biology and Physiology. Dr. Boschen will begin her new role in September 2023. Her lab will study the molecular mechanisms underlying prenatal alcohol-related birth defects and CNS damage, focusing on epigenetics, oxidative stress, and regulation of cell cycle and apoptosis. In addition, she will investigate risk and resiliency factors that determine alcohol sensitivity, including genetics and environmental co-exposures.
