Timothy P. Moran, M.D, PhD

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

Dr. Moran received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. He completed a residency in Pediatrics at UNC Hospitals and then pursued fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at Duke University Medical Center. He returned to UNC in 2014 as a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics and the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology (CEMALB). Dr. Moran’s clinical interests are childhood allergic diseases, including asthma and food allergies. His research is focused on the mechanisms of allergic inflammation, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets for asthma and other allergic diseases.
In the clinic: Dr. Moran sees pediatric allergy patients at the Children’s Pediatric Specialty Clinic in Raleigh, and attends on the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology consult service at UNC Hospitals.
At the bench: Dr. Moran’s research aims are to better understand the immunological mechanisms involved with allergic disease pathogenesis. In particular, he is interested in the role of innate immune cells in allergic asthma. Using preclinical animal models and human cell culture systems, he is studying how lung dendritic cells and macrophages regulate allergic airway inflammation.
